Dr Michael Furtado

My background is in critical literacy and productive pedagogies, which provide an authentic and transformative educational foundation for exposing and redressing unjust and exclusive/secluding/separatist school practices through deconstructing unexamined pedagogies and their reproductive social and cultural effects. In this project I work with Sharon to help in all areas of the project. I also try to help teachers reflect on the implications of their current practice for the life chances of all their students, especially the most marginalised. In particular, my focus is on curriculum and pedagogy and on what constitutes just, empowering and inclusive assessment practices. For this to happen my role is to develop ‘vocabularies’ of inclusive assessment practice so that teacher engagement is understood as reflecting the learning needs and styles of all.
