| Sharon's Motivational Speaking |
|
I have really been enjoying the opportunities I have been given to speak at various events over the past three years. My presentations are real. I tell my life story but I intertwine it with the many stories of others lives I have met along the way. It is the sharing of these experiences that helps create meaning to my world. I don't see myself as anything super special. I am just a person who has had to live my life in a different way because of my health. I am however a person who is highly motivated to succeed and very driven to achieve my goals. The support networks from others have helped make this possible and my inner drive, strength and faith make it achievable. I don't like to lose sight of the higher goal and I keep this in focus while I do the smaller tasks. In this way I can keep positive and still remain driven to put in the hours when things are tough. I guess I want my audience to know that anything is possible if you approach it the right way and believe in yourself. After a number of years of lecturing at university I thought I had most of the skills necessary for any type of public speaking. However nothing really prepared me for the past three years where I have spoken to over 30 000 adults and children across all contexts and settings from intimate groups to packed halls. I like to create a relationship with my audience which allows me to use my Communication Skills beyond those generally being used in business or in education today... skills which help "Clear the way" for the new thinking and communication required to create solutions in the challenging world of education, business … and in our personal lives. My story is real. It is about empowering people. It is about giving people choices. It is about allowing all people to see their inner potential. It is about removing barriers and encouraging people to grow. Often by opening up issues that are not openly discussed we can solve problems, break down barriers and create positive environments where ever we are. All of us go through things in our lives that are hard to deal with. We all go through times where we don't want to be in a particular place or space. It is how we move through these times and how we react in this time that impacts on and shapes who we become. We can grow as a person and the ultimate choices that we make help create the people we are. We need to understand the fragility of life, but also the preciousness of the gift of it. We need to seize the moment and not waste time with negative thoughts or energy. I like to explore every day events, relationships, challenges and interactions between people. In my presentations I try to encourage, uplift, educate and empower all the participants. I use humour, real life stories and life-altering moments to encourage participants to:
The children I work with are not afraid to ask any question of me. Often their questions are the most real and confronting, but they are also authentic and break down barriers and open up discussions that create real change. As adults we need to learn this skill. Keeping positive helps me to enjoy my life. I try to explore the ways I do this and pass on these skills. My sessions encourage participants to think outside of the square. Life and love are so much bigger than the box or labels we put around them. People are unique and need to be valued. Life is a mystery but we don't need to know everything. I guess I see this as part of the adventure. My sessions will challenge participants and will encourage them to be focused and positive about achieving the things that are important to them. My motivational sessions are fun and informative. They will inspire but also make participants reflect on their own lives and what they can achieve. I really believe that by exploring yourself and knowing what you really want from life, you can focus on those goals and use your inner strength to succeed. It will encourage people to live their dreams. Nobody needs to be told 'you can't do it'. We all can!!!!!! Sharon has presented at:
One recent conference Sharon presented to was the IEU Support Staff Conference - Enlightening Times held in Sydney. Click here to launch an overview of the conference sesssion as well as pictures from the workshop. This was exciting as it explored diversity and the important role support staff play in schools and the many other educational contexts in which they work.
