| Sharon's Rotary Award |

I was excited and incredibly privileged that the Toowoomba East Rotary Club chose me to receive the annual Disability Award. This award was developed to give recognition to people who work in the area of disability. The Outgoing President Pete Burrows and the current President, Gary Adman and all the club members, made Dad, Michael and me very welcome. It was a humbling day and a very enjoyable one. We had a beautiful luncheon and then the award ceremony followed. I hope I can continue to live up to the expectations of the club. With the prize money Michael and I intend to announce a very exciting inclusive education project/competition for Discovering DisAbility & Diversity in 2005. Keep watching this site for more information.
I was presented with the Rotary Award, however my work would not be possible without the help and support of Michael and my family who enable me to live my dreams to be a part of developing real inclusive communities. I would like to dedicate the award to them. If we can break down the barriers that exist towards disability we will be able to move towards a more equitable and just society. Discovering DisAbility & Diversity is part of this process and we are seeing some amazing responses. Thank you to all the members of Toowoomba East Rotary Club for their support and recognition of this important work. |
